Get Metal Mario in Mario Tennis Open Now

With the release of the Nintendo 3DS came the introduction of region-specific content for Nintendo handhelds. This means that while you might have seen some QR Codes around for scanning new characters into Mario Tennis Open, they will only work with a game/system from a particular region, meaning that not every region has had the same characters available at the same time.

Today, the official Mario page on Facebook has updated with a new code which, when scanned, will allow players to use Mario’s metallic alter-ego in Mario Tennis Open. Metal Mario doesn’t make as much noise as he’s been known to in other games while moving around the court, but he definitely brings power to the fore– and his forehand! He now joins a plethora of coloured Yoshis, as well as a Yoshi costume for your Mii, which can all be found here.

And if you’re wondering how the game plays, it’s a great tennis game, though the “Mario” elements of the main game feel comparatively lacking to previous installments. You can find out all of the details in my review for the Toronto Video Game Examiner.
