The Nintendo Download – 8/23/12

This… is a largely uneventful week for The Nintendo Download. So uneventful, in fact, that Nintendo hasn’t even updated their press section with this week’s releases yet! We don’t know when that will happen, so this week I’m borrowing from GoNintendo‘s update (whose source was taken down, mysteriously enough). If anything else comes up, I’ll update this post accordingly.

If nothing else, at least Wii owners get a Virtual Console update with SNK’s Metal Slug X for 900 Wii Points. If you’re not familiar with the series by now, Metal Slug is a Contra-esque run-‘n-gun affair for one or two players simultaneously. This particular iteration is an enhanced version of Metal Slug 2 with new weapons, enemies, and remixed backgrounds and music.

Next up is VectorRacing in the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Using oldschool vector graphics, you can play in four modes with six machines across 12 courses, and up to two can play by alternating turns. This one will run you $6.99 (according to the Nintendo eShop itself; the price was not listed on the website or in the press release as of this writing).

And finally, we have Abyss for Nintendo DSiWare, an $1.99/200 DSiPoint action-adventure title for one player. Delving into the darkness of the Earth’s deepest underground in a resource-strapped future, it’s your job to guide Nep2no through abnormal gravity conditions and minimal light to collect the precious Gaia stones which may be key to ensuring mankind’s survival.

That’s it for this week!
