Nintendo Offers New Wii Bundle with Price Drop in U.S., But Nothing for Canada Yet

As you might have heard by now, Nintendo is phasing out its New Super Mario Bros. black Wii console bundle and replacing it with a new package, seen at right, which includes a black Wii console with a Wii Remote Plus and Nunchuk controller, as well as copies of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. This package will be available in the U.S. at a new price of $129.99.

“Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console,” said Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing, Scott Moffitt. “A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season.”

Strangely enough, however, we have checked with Nintendo of Canada and there is no word regarding a price drop or the release of this bundle here. At least, not yet; it’s difficult to imagine the bundle remaining U.S.-exclusive. Moreover, those who saw last Friday’s Canadian Video Game Deals post might have noticed that Walmart listed the New Super Mario Bros. Wii bundle at $129; they did not mention this as being part of any special deal or rollback.

So it seems that they may have simply been getting ahead of Nintendo’s announcement and the drop will probably be in effect in Canada, but there is nothing official yet. I’ll update you if anything further develops.
