The Nintendo Download – 1/31/13
This week’s Nintendo Download comes fully-loaded: In addition to Nintendo 3DS eShop and Virtual Console goodness, we also have a new release for the Wii U eShop, the Wii Virtual Console, and even DSiWare! So without further ado…
The highlight of the night is Puddle, which has no listed price. The Independent Games Festival 2010 winner is now available on in the Wii U eShop, and features a premise which sounds similar to Nintendo’s own Fluidity, in that you guide a puddle of water through stages and past hazards by tilting the controller left or right.
Still trying to decide on whether or not to download The Cave? Fret no more, as a free demo version is now available on the Wii U eShop, allowing you to try the latest from the minds which brought you Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, Psychonauts, and Brütal Legend before you buy!
The long-awaited strategy RPG Fire Emblem Awakening is almost here! The demo is available now on the Nintendo 3DS eShop, and on February 4th, the day it hits retail, you’ll be able to buy the full version there as well.
Ikachan is the latest game to come from Nicalis, who brought us such great titles as Cave Story, VVVVVV, and Night Sky. In this $4.99 Nintendo 3DS eShop title, you move through an underwater world threatened by earthquakes and other dangers to help your friends flee their old home and find a new one.
Witch’s Cat from Agetec is a Wonderland-themed puzzle-adventure title now available in the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Originally available at retail, I’m unable to find a price for the title. By transforming from human to cat and back, as well as mastering other spells, you can complete the 50 levels laid before you by the evil Queen herself.
Similarly, Bloody Vampire is another Agetec retail title turned Nintendo 3DS eShop download, and doesn’t seem to have any entries on Amazon for a price. By increasing their powers and abilities, such as transformation into a bat or werewolf, the player is able to advance through the castle of Verulia and discover its darkest secrets.
If you have Sparkle Snapshots 3D (available in the Nintendo 3DS eShop, natch), there is new downloadable content available in the in-game boutique. One is the “Mario Core Set,” and the other is the “Mario Kart 7 Set.” Unfortunately, no price is given, nor any screens of what the sets look like.
Ah, Ice Climber. Already available to Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors for free, this $4.99 release allows those who have it to upgrade to a fully-realized Virtual Console version. Unfortunately, the 2-player capability is no longer here, so Popo has to go it alone without Nana as he tries to reach the top of 32 mountains and claim the bounty of vegetables awaiting there.
Available on both the Nintendo 3DS eShop ($1.99) and Nintendo DSiWare (200 DSi Points), 99Moves is a classic arcade-style game in which you must guide V-99 through the Shaders zone in 99 moves or less. But with constantly-moving hazards all around, will that be enough?
Finally, Metal Slug 4 comes to the Wii Virtual Console. Wait, didn’t they already release that? It’s getting difficult to keep track. In any case, no price is given on the webpage as of this writing, but being a NEOGEO game, I’m guessing it will cost 900 Wii Points to engage in the 1- or 2-player run ‘n gun action the series has become so well known for.
That’s all for this week. To find more screens, videos, and information on each of this week’s releases, click each of the relevant links above.
