New Mario Party Announced for Nintendo 3DS

Another new announcement among the updates provided by today’s Nintendo Direct was that of a new, as-yet unnamed Mario Party title for the Nintendo 3DS.

Party Like it’s the Year of Luigi: A new game in the Mario Party series is scheduled to launch for Nintendo 3DS this winter. The game features seven different game boards, each with its own set of rules. The game offers 81 new mini-games that test speed, concentration and luck. In addition to the board game elements, players will be able to play mini-games exclusively or try their hands at a 30-floor tower climb, AR Card games and StreetPass battles.

I was pleased with Mario Party 9 for the Wii, as the developers had taken some time off and seemed to come back refreshed with a great boardgame/party title for the platform after a lukewarm launch with Mario Party 8. The graphics were reminiscent of Super Mario Galaxy, while the gameplay was revamped and everything felt a lot more Mario-esque than some previous outings.

With that said, it looks as though that level of quality may continue with this new Nintendo 3DS game. Having different rules for different boards should really spice things up considerably, too. It doesn’t sound like they’re including online gameplay, but the StreetPass battles may prove to be fun on their own.
