The Nintendo Download – 9/12/13
The big game headlining this week’s Nintendo Download (though it won’t be available until Sunday) is The Wonderful 101. My review copy just came in today, so I can’t say much about it yet, but if you’re curious to find out more, you can check out my hands-on impressions from back when it was still called “Project P-100.” Of course, a fair bit has probably changed since, though I imagine the core experience remains intact.
Two weeks after The Legend of Zelda arrived on the Wii U Virtual Console, we now get to enjoy its direct sequel, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. This one is certainly different from the vast majority of the rest of the series, though I found the sword/shield combat in Skyward Sword to be pleasantly reminiscent of it. With any luck, perhaps I’ll get the opportunity to write more about that someday.
Suffice to say, for those who have had difficulty with the game in the past, this is the ideal time to give it a go. In addition to the save states for really hard parts, you can also ask the Miiverse when you get stuck somewhere.
On the Nintendo 3DS side of the Virtual Console comes Tecmo Bowl. Who needs the NFL when you’ve got good, solid gameplay, the NFL Player’s Association, and Bo Jackson ready to look like Superman on the field?
Admittedly, I’m not much of a football fan at all, but I do appreciate where and when this game came from, when having the NFL license didn’t seem to be the only thing that mattered in whether a football video game would thrive or fail to survive.
Interested in a “Tale to Enjoy”? How about two? Enjoy Gaming Ltd.’s Tales to Enjoy! Little Red Riding Hood and Tales to Enjoy! Puss In Boots are both now available in the Nintendo 3DS eShop and Nintendo DSiWare for just $1.99/200 DSiPoints, respectively.
These edutainment titles for younger gamers feature the classic tales told through voiceovers, and feature various activities and ways to change how the story is told.
Also on Nintendo DSiWare and the Nintendo 3DS eShop is Letter Challenge, a compilation of four word games including Wordblast and Pickletter, as well as updated versions of Hangman and Wordfinder.
Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl is a new installment in the Etrian Odyssey saga, but strangely enough, the page linked here says that it’s available on October 1st. In the meantime, there is a free demo which seems to be available for download now– perhaps that’s why it’s here today?
Finally, three Nintendo eShop games are on sale: Toki Tori 2 is $8.99 in the Wii U eShop until 9am PT on September 19th; Super Little Acorns 3D Turbo is $3.99 until 9am PT on October 2nd; and Bike Rider DX is $2.99 until 9am PT on October 10th.
That’s all for this week. As always, be sure to click the corresponding links above to learn more information, view more screens, and even see some videos for each of this week’s releases.
