The Nintendo Download – 1/30/2014 – Super Indie Sale Edition

Wii U gets linked to the past.

This week’s Nintendo Download is a little more robust than what we’ve been seeing lately, though this is due in part to there being several games on sale as part of Nintendo’s “Super Indie Connection Sale”. Read on for more!

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for Wii U – Kicking things off, we have one of the most beloved games from The Legend of Zelda series of all-time, A Link to the Past. What better time than now to explore the world which set the stage for the recent A Link Between Worlds? Granted, it might have been better had they released this on Wii U before that came out, but better late than never. And if you’ve played A Link Between Worlds first, no worries– now you can see the events which led to it! With a game this good, you can’t lose!

Mario Bros. for Nintendo 3DS – Something’s gumming up the plumbing, poor Luigi’s in a bind! Killer turtles out to get him, creepy crabs are right behind! Fighter Flies, jeepers yikes, they’re all coming out of the pipes! “Mario, where are you?!”

Can you dispense with all the pipe-pests in this one or two-player simultaneous arcade game?

Castle Clout 3D – It’s like Angry Birds gone medieval, as you gauge the angle and force with which to launch ammo from your catapult into the castles spread across five continents. Then you can design your own levels and square off with a friend in multiplayer.

ARC STYLE: Solitaire – Both Klondike and Monte Carlo styles of Solitaire await you in this Nintendo 3DS version of the classic card game.

Touch Battle Tank 3D 2 – Which is tougher: The Unstoppable Force, or the Immovable Object? That seems to be the challenge put before players in this sequel, which features two types of tanks: Attack, which has an unstoppable charge shot, and Defense, with impenetrable armor. Hover units unaffected by terrain and new weapons have been added to this game’s 90 levels, featuring 60 regular stages and 30 bonus, totaling 20 more than its predecessor.

Wii Fit U Trial Version Ending Soon – Time’s almost up! January 31st is the last day Wii U owners with a Wii Balance Board can enjoy the free trial demo of Wii Fit U. After that, the game will cost you $29.99 to continue playing– that is, unless you register a $19.99 Fit Meter with your game. Or you can go for a physical copy that comes with the Fit Meter for $49.99.

Nintendo eShop Sales: Super Indie Connection Sale

“Independent developers are responsible for some of the most creative and unique content in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U,” said Nintendo of America’s vice president of Licensing, Steve Singer.

“We noticed there were a lot of high-quality games by independent game developers in the Nintendo eShop,” added Two Tribes Publishing co-founder, Collin Van Ginkel. “This type of special promotion helps us introduce games of other developers to our fans who may not otherwise discover all the great games available on Wii U.”

For this promotion, those who already own or purchase one of the following games at full price will qualify to receive 60 percent off all other participating games until February 13th.

Toki Tori 2+ – Ready to challenge yourself? With no tutorials, no hand-holding, and no one telling you what to do, it’s all up to you to solve this forest island puzzle adventure!

Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party – Two to eight players sit in a circle around the Wii U GamePad in this recreation of the classic party game.

BIT.TRIP Presents… Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien – Run, jump, kick, slide, and soar to the music in this rhythm-based auto-running platformer!

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams – Explore two drastically different yet remarkably similar worlds at once by shifting between the real and the dream worlds as you set out to save your sister!

Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition – Space Hooligans have broken free, and are on the loose! It’s up to Officer Patricia Wagon to use her helmet siren’s ability to “switch” certain sections of her environment from the background to the foreground and vice-versa to catch them all once again!

Ohno Odyssey – Separate from the rest of the sale items above, Ohno Odyssey will be on sale for $3.99 until 9am PDT on February 20th.

And that’s everything for this week! Click the corresponding links above for more information, images, and videos of this week’s releases!
