The Nintendo Download – 3/20/2014

Pokémon, Conception II, Hello Kitty, Yumi’s Odd Odyssey, and more!

This week’s Nintendo Download has some interesting variety going for it. Read on to see what I mean.

Pokémon Battle Trozei for Nintendo 3DS – Everyone’s favorite Pocket Monsters are back! Actually, they never really went away, did they? Nonetheless, this strategic puzzle game features more than 700 of the little critters (from Pokémon Red and Blue up to X and Y) as you match them, battle them, and collect them.

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars – Demo Version for Nintendo 3DS – To get you ready for the full version’s release on April 15th, a demo for this role playing game full of romance, children, and monster fighting will be available in the Nintendo eShop on March 25th.

Volleyball for Wii U – Though it may not be as– *ahem*– “pretty” as some of the more renowned volleyball games out there, Nintendo’s own still has a vintage charm as you spike and lob your way to victory as the captain of your team. And of course, two players can play simultaneously.

Hello Kitty Kruisers for Wii U – It’s kart racing with Hello Kitty and her Sanrio friends, as they race over land, sea, and air. Race with three friends or tackle the Adventure Mode solo, unlocking new outfits and vehicles all the while!

Pure Chess for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS – Though it’s available on both platforms, only the Nintendo 3DS version gives any sort of meaningful description beyond “three tournaments” and “high definition graphics.” (Funny enough, the Wii U description says the game was meant to be played “in high definition,” while the Nintendo 3DS version says it was meant to be “in stunning 3D.” Which is it?)

Assuming both are otherwise the same, the game features Staunton, Checker, and Williams chess sets; Museum, Penthouse, and Library locations; tutorials for basic, intermediate, and advanced techniques; three tournaments, 100 bonus puzzles, and the ability to play by mail with up to eight friends.

Yumi’s Odd Odyssey for Nintendo 3DS – Yumi must use her fishing line to run, jump, and swing her way through this puzzle platformer. She can also user her coveted line to carefully lower herself, or take a risk by using it to catapult her by stretching it to its limit. Secret items and hidden exits await as you fight freaky fish and other enemies before comparing your best scores online.

Free Wii Sports Club Access for Wii U – As noted yesterday, access to Wii Sports Club is free for a limited time. Click here for all the details.
