The Nintendo Download – 4/24/2014

NES Remix 2, Yoshi’s Island, and more.

This week feels… familiar. The reason, of course, being that two of this week’s releases have ties to two other recent releases, with one being a sequel to a recently reviewed game, and another being the prequel to another.

NES Remix 2 for Wii U – Available April 25th: Whereas the first NES Remix focused on the earlier releases in the Nintendo Entertainment System library, from Balloon Fight to Wrecking Crew (with bits of Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda in between, of course), NES Remix 2 features more of the same bite-sized gameplay for later titles in the system’s life, such as Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Punch-Out!!, and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. In addition, the right-to-left mirror version of Super Mario Bros., “Super Luigi Bros., is included, and those who own the original NES Remix will be able to pit their best scores against the world in Championship Mode.

Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 for Wii U – The benchmark which no other Yoshi title has been able to surpass, this version of Yoshi’s Island is not the original, but rather the Game Boy Advance port. Even so, you can still see what drew the praise of gamers everywhere in this more economic version of the classic.

Child of Light for Wii U – Available April 29th: A role playing game inspired by fairy tales, Child of Light follows the story of Aurora, the daughter of a duke, who finds herself swept away into the world of Lemuria. Play alone or have a friend help out by controlling the firefly Igniculus on the Wii U GamePad.

Ava and Avior Save the Earth for Wii U – Learn about the importance of recycling with Ava and Avior in this edutainment adventure!

Gardening Mama 2: Forest Friends for Nintendo 3DS – Available April 29th: Mama is back, and she’s brought some friends with her! New activities, 50 fresh plants, and creative gardening fun await!
