Nintendo Announces Mario’s Canadian Karting Day and Best Buy In-Store Events (Updated)

Get ready to rev up and roll out early!

Update: There was a mix-up in the information about the t-shirts and go-kart races; this has been corrected below.

Update #2: And again. I think I got it right this time!

While Mario Kart 8 won’t be available for the Wii U until May 30th, Nintendo of Canada has announced a way for racers to play the game just a little earlier than that.

Select Best Buy locations across Canada will be host to a hands-on demonstration on Saturday, May 24th, just under a week before the game becomes available at retail and in the Nintendo eShop. The first 50 participants to join in between 12pm and 4pm that day will also be awarded a voucher for a free Mario Kart 8 t-shirt or a race at a local karting track (depending on location), and additional giveaways will be available for the duration of the events (while supplies last).

Next, fans in Montreal and Toronto will be able to celebrate the game’s release on May 31st. From 11am to 5pm (local time), “Mario’s Canadian Karting Day” will allow the first 500 participants age 5 and up to test their pedal-to-the-metal mettle as they compete in real-life kart racing for the honor of taking home a genuine Spiny Shell trophy. Participation is free, and everyone will have the opportunity to win Mario Kart 8 prizes throughout the day.

Furthermore, those who attend will get the chance to “turn their world upside down” by having their picture taken at the Mario Kart 8 Anti-Gravity Photo Booth and meet some of your favorite Nintendo characters. If that wasn’t enough, fans in Toronto will also be able to meet Jeff Kingsley, the 15 year-old Eastern Canadian ROTAX Kart Champion.

These events will be held at the following locations:

Toronto: 401 Mini-Indy Go Karts (37 Stoffel Drive)

Montreal: Action 500 Montreal (5592 Rue Hochelaga)
