The Nintendo Download – 4/2/2015

Get N or get out.

It’s a bit of an odd day today, what with some of the highest-profile bits having been released with yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. Nonetheless, today has some surprises all its own as well…

Super Mario 64 for Wii U – This is the game that essentially defined what a 3D game could be. Guide Mario through the numerous painting worlds and other hidden areas scattered throughout Princess Peach’s castle as you find all 120 Stars and send Bowser packing.

Yoshi’s Island DS for Wii U – The first-ever Nintendo DS Virtual Console game. As I said yesterday, I think Yoshi’s New Island is the better-playing experience, but if you’ve already played the original Yoshi’s Island (also available on Wii U Virtual Console), then this one is the more interesting of the two. This installment spanned both screens of the Nintendo DS, providing new possibilities as well as new complications. As you take control of a tribe of Yoshis, you’ll also partner them up with baby versions of Mario, Peach, Wario, Donkey Kong, and even Bowser himself, each with different abilities.

Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures for Wii U – Rated M for Mature, the Angry Video Game Nerd and his friends go through 10 levels of oldschool sidescrolling difficulty that recreate several of the Nerd’s classic video adventures. Check out the Not Safe For Work trailer here.

Bubble Gum Popper for Wii U – Try to match the 20 different flavors throughout 100 levels of this new take on matching games.

Mon Premier Karaoké for Wii U – A sing-along karaoke game for children. Check out the link for the full track listing.

psyscrolr for Wii U – Psychic powers imbued by a being from another world are the name of the game as an other-worldly presence guides you to your goal in this platformer featuring touchscreen elements.

Underground for Wii U – Can you overcome challenging puzzles in fascinating locations, all while improving your laparoscopic surgery skills? Gather resources to help build a custom solution for each puzzle while keeping enemies and environmental threats at bay.

BOXBOY! for Nintendo 3DS – From the creators of Kirby comes this unique puzzle platformer. Help Qbby get through 150 levels spanning 20 worlds. Check out the trailer here.

Story of Seasons for Nintendo 3DS – Like Harvest Moon? Wondering what the heck happened to the series with the last installment, The Lost Valley?

If you’re a fan of Harvest Moon, then this is the game you want. Originally Bokujo Monogatari (“Farm Story”) in Japan, the series was localized for many years by Natsume. But now, the original Bokujo Monogatari developer, Marvelous AQL, is now handling localization themselves under the Story of Seasons name. Natsume, who still own the rights to the name Harvest Moon, have now opted to continue the series with their own games, thus resulting in Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley.

In this title, you can connect with both the world in the game and other players online, filling your town with visiting farmers through StreetPass or farm together with friends through local wifi. Check out the trailer here.

Excave II: Wizard of the Underworld for Nintendo 3DS – Take the role of one of two different adventurers in this hack and slash dungeon role playing game. Experience points aren’t what you need to survive here, but rather better equipment. Find the legendary weaponry you need to smash your way to victory!
