The Nintendo Download – 1/14/2016

The first Metroid is in captivity…

At least one terrific game headlines the new releases this week, but there are also some pretty good games on sale in the Nintendo eShop, too! I recommend checking out Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed for Wii U (not the Nintendo 3DS one) if you haven’t already — there’s even a free demo available!

Metroid: Zero Mission for Wii U – Did you know? 2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Metroid, and Nintendo is kicking things off by releasing this reimagining of that landmark adventure on the Wii U Virtual Console! The original key elements are in place, augmented and enhanced by the advancements of a couple of decades’ worth of experience. Plus, when you beat the game, you’ll unlock the original Nintendo Entertainment System classic that started it all and will really put your skills to the test, giving you two games for the price of one!

Near Earth Objects for Wii U – Take on 120 waves of Earth-destroying rocks hurtling through outer space to the ’90 Euro/rave-inspired soundtrack in this arcade-style shooter.

Space Hulk for Wii U – Sorry, this isn’t Marvel’s Jade Giant taking on cosmic threats; rather, this is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe as you control a small squad of Space Marine Terminators out to reclaim their honor by eliminating the Genestealers that have infested the eponymous space hulk.

The Perplexing Orb for Wii U – Remember Marble Madness? Super Monkey Ball? This basically looks like those, as you guide your perplexing orb through a sky-high obstacle course to reach the goal.

Wicked Monsters BLAST! HD+ for Wii U – You and up to three friends can take on the 15 mini-games at 20 levels of challenge in this shooting gallery.

Lionel City Builder 3D: Rise of the Rails for Nintendo 3DS – Sandbox, strategy, and city simulation, all in one! Create your own world, then drive your own custom-built train through it!

Slice It! for Nintendo 3DS – You only have a limited number of tries, but can you solve these geometric puzzles by drawing lines to create several identical smaller shapes?

The Keep – Demo Version for Nintendo 3DS – Unsure of whether this first-person dungeon crawler is your cup of tea? Find out now with this free demo!

Hmm, this sounds familiar. A gorilla named Louie, who is a huge fan of all things Mushroom Kingdom, is looking for someone to decorate his house for him by way of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer‘s SpotPass feature. Just go to the Nintendo 3DS on the upstairs level of Nook’s Homes to take him on as a client and get a ton of Mario-themed items to decorate with!
