November 11th Declared ‘Nintendo Day 2016’

NESClassicEdition_box_artTo celebrate a number of product launches and sales, Nintendo of Canada has declared that Friday, November 11th, will be “Nintendo Day 2016.”

First and foremost in everyone’s mind is the launch of the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition, which retails for $79.99 and comes with one controller (additional controllers are sold separately for $12.99 each) and comes with 30 games, which you can read about in further detail here.

Joining it will be the launch of the limited edition New Nintendo 3DS XL Solgaleo Laluna Black Edition, customized with artwork of both new legendary Pokémon from the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. The system, found exclusively at Best Buy and EB Games, will retail for $239.99 when it is released a week ahead of the games it’s designed to promote.

If you’re looking for another model, then you may be interested in Toys R Us’s sale on New Nintendo 3DS XL systems. Kicking off on Nintendo Day 2016 and lasting until November 17th, you’ll be able to save $20 on any version of that system type.

Elsewhere, there are amiibo sales aplenty kicking off on Nintendo Day 2016. Until November 17th, EB Games will have a sale where you can buy any two amiibo and get one Animal Crossing amiibo free. During that same time period, Amazon.ca will be discounting amiibo purchased through them by $6, while Toys R Us will have a “buy two, get one free” sale of their own.

Finally, if you can’t wait until Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are released and want to hone your trainer skills in the meantime, Best Buy and BestBuy.ca will have $5 off of what are only specified as “great Pokémon games.”

Is that enough to make you feel like celebrating? I know I’ll be if I can nab an NES Classic Edition before my appointment with the gastroenterologist tomorrow!

From 11am until 1pm on Saturday, February 22nd, Toys R Us locations across Canada will be hosting “Play Day at Toys R Us,” billed as “The Ultimate Family Event.” Those who dress up as their favorite superhero will receive a personalized Secret Identity Card, along with savings on Hasbro Marvel products. On top of that, there are numerous other games, crafts, and activities to be enjoyed.

But the main reason you’re learning about this here, as you might have guessed from the headline, is because select locations will be hosting a demo of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which will be available the day prior (Friday, February 21st, for those not keeping track). The demo will be available at the following locations:
