The Nintendo Download – 6/9/2016 – The Pre-E3 Edition

The 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo kicks off next week, and Nintendo’s taking us in with a really good game as well as a less-good game.

Kirby: Planet Robobot for Nintendo 3DS – Available June 10th, it’s Kirby against mysterious forces who are trying to cyberform his home world of Pop Star! Fortunately, Kirby has a certain knack for using his enemies’ powers against them, but this time he takes it to a whole new level! Stay tuned for my review, which is coming soon!

Dan McFox: Head Hunter for Nintendo 3DS – Agent Dan McFox has 60 different cases on hand, and he’ll need you to help pick the right faces out of the crowd.

Puzzle Labyrinth for Nintendo 3DS – “Puzzle Labyrinth is a game where the player must solve puzzles.” That is literally their tagline. 60 stages filled with traps and monsters must be conquered by solving puzzles and finding items that will allow players to escape each maze.

The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 for Wii U – KING Art, creator of The Critter Chronicles, The Raven – Legacy of a Master Thief, and of course the original The Book of Unwritten Tales, is back with a new 20-hour game that spoofs your favorite fantasy stories with quirky characters as you solve puzzles by the hundreds.

Olympia Rising for Wii U – Jump, slash, climb, and even incinerate your way from the depths of the Underworld to the peak of Mount Olympus. Can you be the true hero needed to accomplish this Herculean feat?

Wario: Master of Disguise for Wii U – Wario swipes a magic wand from television star Count Cannoli, using its powers to turn himself into a Master of Disguise and steal everything that’s not nailed down, including the mythical Wishstone. This game didn’t fare too well upon its release on the Nintendo DS, but perhaps the extra room on the Wii U GamePad will help make the difference?

Fire Emblem Fates – New DLC Map: End: Lost in the Waves – The final part of “Heirs of Fate” sees the next generation assault their ultimate foe. This pack goes for $1.99 USD.

Fire Emblem Fates – Map Pack 2 DLC – Other versions of the Hoshidan and Nohrian children from other dimensions are under attack. These fledgling warriors of the Deeprealms are now forced to save themselves and their parents by rising up and discovering the mystery of their adversaries. Your leveled-up units from the main Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest games are unable to lend their assistance in this six-map series, which you can receive as they are released for $7.99 USD.

Well, this is going to be an odd week. We have some great releases, but for whatever reason, Nintendo’s zip of screens isn’t working, so we’re doing things a bit differently, and I’m using videos for all the big titles.

Mega Man II for Nintendo 3DS – The odd Mega Man out in the Game Boy series (it was developed by a different team than the rest), Mega Man II sees Mega Man face his greatest challenge yet– himself! Dr. Wily has stolen a time machine to travel into the future, where he turns his peace-loving self-to-be back to the dark side, kidnapping the future version of Mega Man and turning him into a weapon of evil. Along with eight returning Robot Masters with revenge on their minds, can Mega Man (and his robodog Rush) hope to overcome his past and his future? You decide!

Mega Man III for Nintendo 3DS – This time out, Wily takes control of an offshore oil rig to drill to the center of the Earth in order to power his latest creation! Eight returning Robot Masters stand in Mega Man’s way, though, enforcing the mad scientist’s will. Fortunately, Mega Man and Rush have some back-up in the form of Eddie, the flip-top cybernetic suitcase robot!

Grinsia for Nintendo 3DS – Join a family of three treasure hunters in this 16-bit styled role playing game from Kemco. A search for ancient ruins housing untold riches soon becomes a quest to save the world itself!

THE “DENPA” MEN 3 The Rise of Digitoll – Full and Demo Versions for Nintendo 3DS – The third game in the series of augmented reality RPGs which allow you to catch and form an army of the titular men from scanning the world around you. The full version is available now, or you can try out the free demo to see if it’s right for you.

Wario Land 4 for Wii U – This Game Boy Advance classic follows Wario through 20 levels of treasure-finding adventure. But just when you think you’ve reached the end, guess again! It becomes a race to the true finish as Wario must escape or be trapped forever!

Parking Star 3D for Nintendo 3DS – 40 maps span five city levels in this leisure-styled game. From Beijing to Dubai, Paris, Tokyo, and New York, you’ll take control of four different types of vehicle, each with their own unique abilities as you drive around and try to park your car as quickly as possible without damaging others.

Gardening Mama 2: Forest Friends – Demo Version for Nintendo 3DS – See if helping Mama out in her garden is right for you with this free demo version of the recent release.

Jewel Match for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DSi – A classic match-3 game with 150 levels spanning both screens, plus three game modes, including a two-player mode! Microphone support is featured in more extra material.

Jewel Quest 4 Heritage for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DSi – The government has confiscated the Golden Jewel Board, and they’re delivering it to the sinister Sebastian Grenard. By swapping jewels and collecting puzzle pieces, you can help Rupert investigate family secrets buried long ago in order to discover the truth and save the day!

Sokomania 2: Cool Job for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DSi – This classic style of game puts you in charge of a warehouse, moving boxes to their target destination in as few moves as possible. 100 levels, a rewind feature, and leaderboards are all included.

We have a pretty good roster of releases this week, along with a personal disappointment and quite a few sales, too!

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror for Wii U – The next Game Boy Advance title to land on the Wii U’s Virtual Console sees Kirby summoning colored copies to venture through maze-like platforming worlds. When the going gets tough and you need a break, there are also a variety of mini-games to try out.

WarioWare, Inc: Mega Microgame$ for Wii U – Did someone say mini-games? (I did, in the entry above this one, in case you missed it.) Wario has taken it to the next smallest level with a series of microgames which last mere seconds! Thanks to the new company he’s started with his cast of crazy friends, there are 200 microgames to enjoy in all, ranging from the bizarre to the retro (such as the Metroid microgame in this week’s banner)!

My Exotic Farm for Wii U – Moo? Not likely on this farm! Ten exotic creatures ranging from hippos to ostriches can be bought and customized as you take care to feed them, clean them, and protect them from diseases. How exotic can you make your farm?

LEGO The Hobbit for Nintendo 3DS – The first two films in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit movie trilogy are covered in this LEGO video game adaptation. Follow the adventures of Hobbit Bilbo Baggins as he is recruited by the grey wizard, Gandalf, to aid Thorin Oakenshield and his fellow dwarfs as they set out to reclaim their homeland.

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars for Nintendo 3DS – Available April 15th: You’ve played the free demo from the Nintendo 3DS eShop (or if you haven’t, you can still get it there), now take on the full quest! Monsters have invaded the world of Aterra in this Japanese-styled role playing game, and only a handful of people imbued with the powers of the Star God can stop them from taking over.

Mach Rider for Nintendo 3DS – Okay, this is the disappointment I referred to at the top. Not because I dislike Mach Rider, but just the opposite: Because of how much I do like it. Like Punch-Out!!, this is a game which deserved the 3D Classics treatment over some of the others which were offered. Heck, I love having 3D Classics Urban Champion, but I’ll readily admit that this would have been a more appropriate choice.

Check out the video above, which I opted for instead of a picture to demonstrate the point, and see if you don’t agree.

That said: Evil forces have invaded the planet in the year 2112, and it’s up to you to race from sector to sector, destroying their Quadrunners and seeking out survivors. You are Earth’s only hope– you are Mach Rider!

Atlantic Quest for Nintendo 3DS – 120 levels of Match-3 puzzle gaming are set across 12 underwater locations as you save the sea from destruction.

Boxzle for Nintendo 3DS – Described as “a beautifully difficult puzzle game,” Boxzle presents you with 120 different puzzles spread across four different puzzle sizes and three different modes of challenge as you try “a new take on the classic sliding tile puzzle or a new twist on an old classic.”

Governor of Poker for Nintendo 3DS – Stake your claim in ten towns across the state of Texas as you go all in to win cash, transportation, real estate, and ultimately become the Governor of Poker!

Nintendo eShop Deals:

DuckTales Remastered for Wii U – Until 9am PT on April 17th, get this remake of Capcom and Disney’s NES classic for 50 percent off. Join Uncle Scrooge, his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, the hapless pilot Launchpad McQuack, and the power-armored superhero Gizmoduck as they seek out five legendary treasures found across such locations as the Amazon, Transylvania, and even the moon! Unlike the original, this version also features voice acting with most of the Disney cast reprising their roles, including the 94 year-old Alan Young, who sounds as good now as he did when he voiced the cartoon 25 years ago!

Escape from Zombie City for Nintendo 3DS – From 9am PT on April 12th until 9am PT on April 27th, this title is 50 percent off.

G-Style Co. Games – Beginning at 9am PT on April 12th and ending at 9am PT on April 27th, select G-Style games will be on sale in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS, including Crazy Construction, Crazy Construction, Crazy Construction, and Crazy Construction.

Permanent Price Drop: My Farm for Wii U – This title is now $4.99, down from the $7.99 it was previously priced at.
